REVIEW | MAC Faux lipstick

MAC Faux‘. It has become a well known term in beauty blogger world. It’s no secret anymore that this is the color Kylie Jenner likes to use on her plump lips. And let’s be honest, wether you like her as a person or not – her lips are amazing! Aside from that, I genuinely love this color. So I just had to buy and try it myself.

MAC Faux

My first MAC product

I have a confession to make. This is my first ever MAC product! It’s strange actually, I’ve always admired MAC from a safe distance. Ever since I started watching beauty Youtubers back in 2007, I was very drawn to MAC. It started with the brushes and it slowly expanded to a lot of products as well. Why did I never buy MAC myself? I honestly don’t know. I guess it’s because MAC isn’t that cheap and there’s no store near me that sells this brand. For some reason I also don’t like spending a lot of money on makeup for my own use. I felt so bad after buying my first ‘expensive’ makeup palette. So I just made myself stay away from the expensive brands.

MAC Faux Satin Lipstick

At last I jumped on the bandwagon – I bought my very first MAC item! *heroic music starts playing* I actually went to buy three items; two lipsticks and a lipliner. Unfortunately two of the items I had in mind were sold out – the ‘Velvet Teddy‘ lipstick and the ‘Whirl‘ lipliner. Velvet Teddy will be restocked soon, but for Whirl I’ll have to be a tad more patient. There seems to be a supply and demand problem which causes delays in restocking. I was told it has been like that for a couple months – aww man! (Edited 05-22-15 : In the meantime, I managed to get my hands on a Whirl lipliner, which I obviously reviewed!)

At least they did have Faux in stock. Only three left, and I am the happy owner of one of them! Seeing the color in real life, I fell in love even more! It’s such a classy color, I can’t really put my finger on it. It’s like a nude shade, with a pink-ish undertone. Faux is part of the ‘Satin‘ collection, which means it has a satin finish. I can definitely see why – it makes my lips look soft and kind of bouncy, in a way! The application is fenominal. Perhaps it’s because I’m used to drugstore lipsticks, but I can honestly say that this is the best lipstick I have ever applied. It glides on effortlessly and it’s very pigmented. It doesn’t emphasize wrinkles or patches on your lips, as some lipsticks tend to do, which is a very big plus for me!

Color & application

For me, the color looks very natural. It just gives you that look that makes people wonder what you did to your face because ‘something looks different’, without it being obvious that you’re wearing a bold color on your lips. My lips are naturally pretty pink, and I feel that when I apply Faux, my lips are more defined and it gives them a deeper and warmer color that is still close to my own color. It also makes them look a bit more plump, which is great! I feel that the color stays on quite well, even after drinking and eating. It does stain on the glass, but if you blot your lips with a tissue after applying, it’s not that bad!

Before after

Before application, I used my Baby Lips for hydration. I would’ve gone for a lipliner as a base, but unfortunately I don’t have any liner that goes with this color. I’ll have to wait for Whirl to get back in stock! The pictures above are taken in natural daylight, with no makeup besides the lipstick.

Conclusion

Overall, MAC Faux is very natural looking, so it goes well with probably any makeup look or outfit. Yay! I’m already saving up money for my next MAC purchase!

These MAC lipsticks are sold for around $14 – $16 dollars depending on where you live. In Europe I’ve spotted them for around €18 – €19 euros.

‘Once you go MAC, you never go back!’ Do you agree as well?!
